Hi, I’m Erin. I’ve been an award-winning meteorologist in Montana for nearly 20 years. After stepping away from the ever-changing world of TV News in May 2026, this Substack platform will now allow me to continue doing what I love on a schedule that works beyond the constraints of live TV - and hey! It’s a much better fit for family life!
So, welcome! While basic posts will remain on my Facebook page with no subscription fee, paid subscribers here on Substack will get full access to detailed western Montana forecasts Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (temporarily available for free). Then, let’s learn some other fun things along the way! Those additional posts will range from nerdy weather stuff to plant/garden ideas to family-friendly activities across the Treasure State and will also be available and remain in the publication archives! In all honesty, reading what I just typed, I’m not just starting a Substack… WE’RE starting a community! This is a work in progress, so bear with me… there’s definitely more to come!

Where have you worked?
I began my meteorology career in Helena, MT as the Chief Forecaster for Beartooth NBC from 2007 to 2010, and was the Chief Meteorologist at KPAX in Missoula, MT from 2010 until 2019! During those years, I’ve been honored to be named Montana’s Weathercaster of the Year by the Montana Broadcasters Association in 2009, 2016 & 2018... runner up in 2008, 2015 & 2017, and Missoula’s Best Meteorologist in 2019 and 2021! After a break from 2019 to August 2025 consisting of ‘fill-in’ stints & lifestyle hosting, I briefly returned through May 2026 again as the evening meteorologist.
Where did you go to college?
I graduated from the University of Montana’s School of Journalism in 2007. I also graduated from Mississippi State with my Broadcast Meteorology degree in the summer of 2012.
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN... snowstorms, tornadoes and humidity - you betcha!
What are some of the biggest weather stories you have covered?
Over nearly two decades, I’ve seen A LOT across the Treasure State, but intense wildfires and spring flooding always stand out. Of course, the two strong straight-line wind events Missoula (& surrounding) experienced in 2015 and 2024 were incredibly memorable.
What is your philosophy on weather?
Much like the National Weather Service (amazing partner, btw), the protection of life and property is an essential part of my job and a part that I take very seriously. I want to be the first one to let you know a Severe Thunderstorm is about to impact your kiddo’s sports game or that a major snowstorm will cause you to change your departure time for that upcoming family event. If whatever is going on with the weather matters to me, I know it matters for everyone else.
What do you love about living in Montana?
I LOVE Montana, all the friendly people and all the interesting weather the state has to offer! I also like skiing, camping, traveling, rafting, fly fishing, volunteering with local animal shelters and hanging out and spending time with my friends and family. My husband (Matt) and I are proud parents of our son (Wade) and daughters (Bryn & Alta)! We’re a big animal-loving family, too… we have three dogs (Brick, Agnes & Clark) and two cats (Seeley & Mouse)! Organized chaos, friends… organized chaos!!
